October
14, 2003 -- Because of budget concerns, many states are expanding the
resources devoted to identifying those non-filing taxpayers
who may be required to register to do business and to file
and pay sales and use taxes as well as business taxes.
One of the ways to encourage compliance, and get a quick
boost in revenue is for the state to offer an amnesty
period.
Refer
to the table below which provides information on several tax
amnesty programs. Penalties and interest on delinquent
taxes may be waived if taxes are paid in full, so these
programs could save a great deal of money. If
an individual or business believes that one of the program
may benefit them, they should contact their Asher
representative or Madeline Janowski to discuss it further.
