| July
10, 2003-- Asher
& Company, Ltd. opened their offices to Kyrgyz
businessman Timur Sultanov as part of the Community
Connections Program, a collaborative effort between the U.S.
and Kyrgyz Governments to assist Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet
province, in making the transition to a market-oriented
economy.
Through a national competition, the International
Visitors Council of Philadelphia was selected for
participation in this program, which brought nine
English-speaking Kyrgyz businessmen and women to U.S. Cities
for technical training programs from June 10th through July
11th.
As
deputy director with accounting automation firm, El San, LLC
in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Sultanov is responsible for the
management of all business processes including, financial
management, strategic planning and control of plan
implementation as well as client relations.
While at Asher & Company, Ltd., he observed firm
operations and attended business calls and meetings with
directors Steve Carr, Madeline Janowski, Bernadette Chicco,
Bill Burns, Carl Graf, Cathy Nemeth, Chief Administrator
Susan Mock, Office Manager Elaine Allen, Marketing Director
Jack Kolmansberger, and other Asher staff.
Sultanov said that the management procedures and
technology he has been exposed to at Asher will greatly
assist his company and was particularly impressed with the
firm’s wireless capabilities.
In
all, Sultanov visited four accounting firms in the Greater
Philadelphia Region during his month stay and even had some
time for cultural and leisurely activities like visiting the
Philadelphia Museum of Art, attending the July 4th
celebrations at the new National Constitution Center, seeing
a Camden Riversharks baseball game, trying seafood for the
very first time, and sampling everyone’s favorite
Philadelphia institution—a Philly cheese steak.
“This trip has changed my life.
Our cultures and nationalities are so far away, but
so close at the same time,” says Sultanov, who has never
been so far from Kyrgyzstan.
Mr. Sultanov looks forward to visiting Philadelphia
again and plans to keep in touch with his U.S. counterparts.
