| On Friday,
May 11, 2001 Philadelphia's first citizen of Rock and Roll,
Pierre Robert delivered one of his legendary Friday Workforce
Broadcasts from the Rittenhouse Square offices of Asher
& Company, Ltd. Arriving around one pm PT (Pierre Time),
Robert stepped off the elevator and quickly set to work.
The ever-ebullient Robert was directed to the firm cafeteria
where the staff had assembled to welcome the DJ and his
production assistants, the WMM Army with a pizza party.
As soon as Robert announced his broadcast location to the
radio audience, the Asher switchboard lit-up with calls
from firm clients, friends and family all of whom were delighted
to know that their favorite radio personality was doing
his show from our offices.
Following few formalities, Marketing Director Jack Kolmansberger
accompanied Pierre on a tour of the offices, during which
WMMR played
blocks by the Talking Heads, Collective Soul and Three Doors
Down. Of course, Jack had to repay the kindness by doing
a commercial for Vermont Teddy Bears. Pierre practically
leapt across the table to stop Jack who had offered “to
take it from the top” after Pierre’s much-needed
coaching. Pierre also gave his audience a lesson in the
difference between outsourcing (one of Asher’s emerging
service areas) and downsizing (“where companies throw
good people out on their ***,” according to Pierre).
Before long, the time had come for Robert to meet Asher
& Company, Ltd.'s Managing Director Steve Carr and Asher
Open Champion Megan McDonnell. The three agreed to play
a friendly, albeit abbreviated game of golf, Asher Style.
It was an opportunity to allow Robert to experience a taste
of the form's legendary inner-office golfing tradition,
which the DJ missed last month. As the broadcast concluded,
Pierre congratulated the firm for creating the “sick
and wonderful” environment that keeps employees happy.
Pierre hung around to sign autographs including one to the
Asher Boys in Blue (softball team).
After the broadcast ended, Pierre walked up front for a
birds-eye view of Rittenhouse Square, the greatest place
in the City. Asher Financial Advisor’s Vicki Dworski
brought him up to date on the comings and goings in the
Square. For those of you who caught Pierre’s broadcast
the next week, he mentioned that the Barclay is now condo,
information he gleaned from Vicki!
What’s going to happen next at Asher? Nobody knows
for sure, but Pierre Robert is a tough act to follow. In
the interim, we salute the rest of the staff with the words
of our popular guest….. " Rock
on my brothers."
